How will ATMs fare in an omni-channel world?

In the latest edition of Chartered Banker Magazine, Bernardo Batiz-Lazo, a professor of business history and bank management at Bangor University, looks at what the future holds for ATMs in an omni-channel world in his article Tried and Trusted.

Far from seeing omni-channel as sounding the death knell for ATMs, Bernardo cites statistics from the KAL-sponsored ‘2016 ATM Software Trends Report’ by ATM Marketplace to back up his argument that automated tellers will ‘remain the backbone of banks’ delivery strategies’.

He also addresses predictions that cash is dying and what this would mean for ATMs, revealing four fundamental reasons why ATMs will continue to thrive and prosper in a self-service driven banking environment, as well as ATMs’ secret weapon in the war against fintechs.
