In a drive to sterilize its offices around the globe and protect employees against Covid-19, KAL is installing UVC lighting.
UVC light kills at least 99.9% of all known viruses, including coronaviruses such as Sars. It is regularly used in hospitals, airports and factories, as well as to sanitize drinking water, but is less commonly found in office environments.
In a move that is believed to be a first in Scotland, KAL has installed mains-wired UVC lightbulbs in its Edinburgh headquarters and plans to do the same at its other global offices. The lights are controlled using an application and are set up to operate only at night-time or when no-one is present.
KAL CEO Aravinda Korala said: “At KAL, the health and well-being of our staff is our highest priority. During this pandemic, we are following all guidance to protect our employees and continue delivering our ATM software to our customers. Installing UVC lighting is one further step in ensuring the highest levels of staff safety.”
